CONTEMPORARY UPSIDE DOWN HOUSE

The concept design for this bespoke dwelling uses the sloping topography of the site to arrange the key open plan kitchen/dining/living space at upper ground floor level in order to take advantage of the stunning views over the Co. Armagh countryside. This vaulted ceiling space is terminated with a fully glazed gable which allows natural light to flood the interior and is also connected to a South facing external terrace to heighten the experience and enjoyment of the rural setting. The lower ground floor houses the bedrooms and ancillary spaces including an integrated garage. Pedestrian and vehicular access is facilitated to both levels of the dwelling to enhance the use of and flow of the building. The material palette combines traditional materials of timber and stone with large expanses of glass and contemporary standing seam zinc to the pitched roof element with grass covering to the flat roof over the lower ground floor block. The material palette is composed to provide a contemporary aesthetic whilst at the same time integrating the building into its rural wooded setting.
