ST. PATRICKS RESOURCE CENTRE, ARMAGH CITY

COMMUNITY BUILDING DESIGN.

This significant project aims to regenerate the derelict and vacant former Parochial Hall building which is located on a very prominent site adjacent to the entrance to the historic St. Patricks RC Cathedral in Armagh City.

The scheme design comprises the full restoration and refurbishment of the existing building with a large new build contemporary extension accommodating a wide range of purpose built and multi-use spaces. A triple height glass atrium element connects the “old” fabric of the Parochial Hall with the “new” fabric of the extension block.

The existing streetscape along Cathedral Road is maintained and respected with a modern projecting glass box intervention connecting the existing building to the public street at first and second floor level. The selected material finishes respect the surrounding context and are sensitive to the historical St. Patrick’s Cathedral and its setting.
