DORAN RESIDENCE, CO. DOWN

BESPOKE HOUSE DESIGN.

The client brief requested a 4-bedroom family home with a large open plan living, dining kitchen space located in a rural setting in Co. Down. The concept for the design and layout of the house was a response to the site features and the context of the rural farm building clusters in the locality.

The massing of the dwelling is broken down into two main blocks separating the bedrooms and ancillary spaces from the main living space and connected by a contemporary glazed entrance box. The orientation of the building forms and internal layout has been carefully considered to maximise natural light to the interior and capture the stunning views to the surrounding countryside and nearby forest. The south facing external spaces have been designed as an extension to the main living and circulation spaces which elevates the feeling of connection with and enjoyment of the surrounding countryside.

The mixture of traditional building forms and materials with modern detailing creates a contemporary appearance for the house yet respects the scale and style of the traditional rural farmstead.
