18-22 SCOTCH STREET, DOWNPATRICK CO. DOWN

CONSERVATION + HERITAGE

This urban regeneration project involves the extensive renovation, refurbishment and extension of two derelict and adjoining ends of terrace buildings located within the historical town centre and Conservation Area of Downpatrick.

The extremely restrictive site and building parameters has made the project design challenging with the completed development accommodating two retail units at ground floor level with three residential apartments at first and second floor levels. The sensitive restoration of the existing buildings respects its built context and historical setting, while at the same time improving the condition and layout of the buildings to facilitate modern standards for retail and living spaces.

The works include significant structural alterations and repairs both internally and to the external envelope, replacement of traditional timber sliding sash windows, replacement of traditional timber shop fronts, new M+E services installations and demolitions with new build construction of the rear returns.
